March - The month of Ideas

1st March and March as month itself is largely considered to be the beginning of spring.  It is the time when animals come out of hibernation. The trees blossom. The flowers bloom. The birds chirp. There are many vibrant colours.

The days get longer. There is more movement, more flow, more brightness, more vibrance, more colours. These changes are naturally inclined to spread more happiness and joyfulness.

It is said that these changes impact and improve our cognitive thinking.  Thus March is celebrated as "International Month of Ideas".

So how do prepare yourself for enhancing and boosting your creative side?
  • Early to bed and Early to rise
    • Sleep early. Ensure you have no screen time at least one hour before you sleep.
    • Get up early. Pray, Meditate and Stretch
  • Connect with nature
    • Go for walks. Observe the nature
    • You get and absorb more Vitamin D during early morning sunshine walks.
    • Your energy levels are high.
  • Read a book and Write your thoughts
    • Just read. Whatever you like.
    • If possible do write down your thoughts/ ideas whenever you have them.
    • You may create miracles.
  • Include seasonal colours in your diet
    • This is month when even the vegetables and fruits we get are in different colours.
    • Include them in your daily diet.
    • They provide energy and boost your creativity.
  • Declutter
    • A stuffed room or environment is known to cause thinking impairment.
    • Remove all the unwanted stuff.
    • Clean the space and the let fresh air come in.
    • DECLUTTER is the word.
  • Start something new
    • As mentioned, spring is the season of new beginnings.
    • Start something new.
    • May be a new project, a new sport, a new painting, a new social cause or any other new hobby.
Just mobilise your brain cells in the right direction with conscious efforts. See the kind of "Ideas" you come up with.  ENERGISE, INNOVATE, CREATE.

Design solutions not products to succeed

As is the cliche, the world today is looking for service and not products..
I would like to state that the world today is looking for solutions and not only service or products.

Like products, we need to have a suite of solutions from which the customers can choose.
When I say solutions, products and services may be a part of it.

When, I as a customer go to the market, I do not buy a refrigerator, I also evaluate the service features like the Warranty, the Installation agreement, the AMC details, I look at the customer reviews of the products, the customer service, the feedback on the company for delivering on the promises made and even the CSR review. I am looking for a solutions to my existing and potential problems.

Thus it is important to design solutions with combinations of maybe multiple products, services and framework to deliver the same.  In fact, service shall be the main component of the solution provided.

Listed below are few points which need to be taken into consideration while designing a solution.

  • If we have only one of type of solution, then we are limiting our bandwidth of customers.
  • We need to be  providing CHOICES to the customers for the solutions, highlighting the value we plan to deliver.
  • There should at least two solutions models which have to have unique USP.
  • The business should focus on creating SOLUTION/SERVICE PATENTS which shall sustain as well as grow in the market.
  • We need to understand the future market and design the solutions accordingly.
  • Follow the footsteps of successful competitors to sustain, but build unique solutions to beat them.
  • We have to think elite to soar high.
  • Every single person who is a part of the solution chain should know the value of what he/she is delivering.
  • The Solution built should be customer-centric.
  • The Solution should be uniform and not person specific
  • The people delivering the solution should be equipped well and motivated to deliver the service.
  • The solution teams should work in cohesion and not in silos.

Disciplined By COBOL

Being an Engineer had sculpted me into an individual who believed in
  • Analytical thinking and technical delivery.
  • Life is pure enjoyment
It all worked fine. Was able to clear all the possible aptitude tests and getting employed was the ultimate step on the success ladder of Engineering...

A campus recruitment was our gateway to the ever demanding Corporate World... It further opened an avenue to learn and explore new things.. Being an engineer, the passion to try something new and excel always existed... I always had  the will to learn and upgrade myself... I try to learn atleast one new thing every year... I love designing and thus built frameworks that are backbones of the organisation.

But to succeed I firmly believe that we always need mentors.. and mentors everywhere...  I too had the best of mentors... Of them one is extremely special... It is not a person but a programming language... Yes you read it correct..

A programming language-- COBOL...

  • It taught me that life is complicated and interesting...
  • It taught me that discipline is important..
  • It punished me hard for the mistakes I committed...
  • It taught me to let each one do their own job...
  • It taught me to if you fail your team fails...
  • It taught me there is no place for casual approach..
  • It taught me that planning is as important as execution....
  • It taught me getting things right in max two retakes..
  • It taught me considering the future while acting in the present..
  • It taught me missing a smallest POINT "." can create a havoc...
So I consider myself fortunate to have worked on this beautiful platform who Disciplined me....

I dedicate this first post of mine to COBOL.. my mentor my guru....
